DSM

A quick reference to VMware Data Services Manager (DSM) content

DSM, short for Data Services Manager, is VMware’s self-service database offering for VMware Cloud Foundation. It enables VI Admins to set aside a subset of vSphere resources, dedicate those resources to databases and data services, whilst also guard-railing those services from over-using a customer’s finite set of vSphere resources. Databases (currently PostgreSQL and MySQL, with Microsoft SQL Server in tech preview) can be provisioned through DSM by Data Admins for end-users, or it can be used in a self-service method by end-users. Since the release of VCF 9.0, much work has been done to integrate DSM with VCF Automation to offer DBaaS (Database as a Service) to our VCF customers. This integration enables Supervisor Namespaces to define the resources for a database, and enables VKS (vSphere Kubernetes Service) to back the database clusters.
