Aria Operations Integration with VMware Data Services Manager v1.5 (Video)

This is another short video showing the main steps to configure Aria Operations (formerly vRealize Operations) to monitor databases provisioned via VMware Data Services Manager (DSM). Note that there is a requirement to install True Insight Management Packs for PostgreSQL (and MySQL) with Aria Operations. Thus, there may be a licensing cost associated with this. However, if you are already using Aria Operations as your single pane of glass for monitoring all of your vSphere Infrastructure, then there may be benefits to using the same mechanism to monitor your databases. The purpose here is to demonstrate that provisioning databases via…

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 4.1 – What’s new?

To coincide with a new release of vSphere 7.0U1 and vSAN 7.0U1, there is also a new release of VMware Cloud Foundation releasing. This is VCF version 4.1. In this release, as well as a bunch of updates to the versions of the various VMware products that make up the VCF bill of materials, there are also some nice new enhancements. In this post, I’ll highlight the big features that I know a number of customers are interested in. Support for vVols as a Principal Storage for Workload Domains Virtual Volumes (vVols) is gaining more and more traction among VMware…

vRSLCM – Binary Mapping from Local are not listed – Solved

As mentioned in a previous post this week, I am looking at vRealize Suite Life Cycle Manager (vRSLCM). I’m coming at this as a newbie, and I am trying to use it in much the same way as one of our customers would use it. I previously stood up vRSLCM, so now I am at the point of where I would like to deploy another vRealize application, namely vRealize Operations. Rather than pulling the OVA image from My VMware, I wanted to see the behaviour when I manually download the latest vROps OVA, version 8.1.1, and store it directly on…

vRSLCM deployment – Failed to send http data – Solved

Yesterday I spun my wheels a bit on an issue I encountered whilst trying to deploy vRealize Suite Life Cycle Manager (vRSLCM) via the vRealize Easy Installer. I downloaded the ISO, opened it up, navigated to the vrlcm-ui-installer folder and clicked on the installer.exe. I selected the Install option, then went through the steps to roll-out the vRSLCM product, as shown below. Almost immediately on completing the deployment I hit this error: “Failed to send http data”: I examined the logs and this is what I found: 2020-07-13T13:49:45.201Z – info: output:PROGRESS 2020-07-13T13:49:50.307Z – info: output: 2020-07-13T13:49:50.310Z – info: output: ERROR…

Workflow issues when vCenter instance not correctly added to vRO

As part of my preparation work for VMworld 2018, I was looking into how one might be able to automate the deployment of VMs from vRealize Automation 7.4 with an appropriate policy for consuming the under-lying storage. In my case, this underlying storage was vSAN 6.7 (and vSphere 6.7), so I wanted to be able to select a vSAN policy for my VM Home namespace and disks. Fortunately, there is a vRealize Orchestration (vRO) plugin to do just that called the vRA SPBM Integration plugin. But, once I had this plugin installed, and followed the instructions, I hit a snag.…
