Big news from Pure Storage

There was lots of big news yesterday from our friends over at Pure Storage. First of all, we had an announcement about their Virtual Volume (VVol) implementation going GA. This is very exciting for me, and I look forward to testing it out in our lab. The implementation is a VASA 3.0 implementation, which means support for array based replication (ABR). My good pal Pete Fletcha did a great write-up on the announcement here. And of course, Cody Hosterman of Pure Storage also gives us his low-down on what this VVol implementation means to him. One thing is for sure, we are now starting to see VVols gaining more and more momentum.

In other news from Pure, they also announced a vSphere Metro Storage Cluster validated solution (PSVP) called ActiveCluster. These validated solutions are few and far between, so its great to see Pure Storage finally get on the program. This is leveraging Pure’s synchronous replication in an active/active stretch cluster using core vSphere features such as DRS and HA for customers. Check out the new KB article here for more information.

Last but not least, Pure Storage is now included in a VMware Validated Design (VVD). A VVD is a tested/validated blueprint that customers can use to confidently build their own VMware private cloud. More information on the Pure VVD can be found in this KB article.
