A number of customers have experienced some issues with getting the Virtual SAN (VSAN) health check to work correctly in their environments. The most common issues have been permissions and certificates. In this post, I want to highlight these issues and any associated KB articles, and call out the symptom as well as the resolution.
Announcing some important news for VSAN 6.0 users, especially those using the VSAN Health Check Plugin. If you are using the Virtual SAN Health Check Plugin version 6.0 (and if you use Virtual SAN 6.0, you definitely should be using it), there is a new patch now available. Note that this new Health Check plugin version 6.0.1 release only requires the vCenter server to be updated. There are no new ESXi host side VIBs required. Virtual SAN already has a number of features and extensions for performance monitoring and real-time diagnostics and troubleshooting. In particular, there is VSAN Observer, which is included as part of the Ruby vSphere Console (RVC). Another new feature is the Health Check Plugin, which was recently launched for VSAN 6.0. However, a lot of our VSAN customers are already using vRealize Operations Manager, and they have asked if this could be extended to VSAN, allowing them us to use a “single pane of glass” for their infrastructure monitoring.
